I’m conducting a political poll in a very tight mid-term Congressional election. The margin of error for the poll the last time it was conducted was 5 points. Given how tight the race is, the candidate would feel better if the margin of error was 2.5 points. In order to get the lower margin of error I’d have to: Cut the sample in half Double the size of the sample Quadruple the size of the sample Double the incentive I’m giving people to participate. Employ multiple methods of polling people–phone and in-person, for example.
