English 102 100 Points Total Two Steps: 1. Locate outside sources and annotate them just like you would when we met face-to-face. Students will send me these annotated sources before midnight on Wed. 5/20 (25 points) 2. Complete the annotated bibliography (details below) before midnight on Sun. 5/24 (75 points) How to Complete an Annotated Bibliography: An annotated bibliography is like an extended Works Cited page – don’t be confused by the word “annotated” – this is different from our normal annotations you show me in class. An annotated bibliography is a list of outside sources you intend to use for your paper. This assignment will ask you to summarize the sources you will use in your essay, and then assess the source’s credibility. This is an excellent research tool to assess whether a source you’ve gathered will actually aid in your argumentation. You should find sources that put forth a variety of claims (not all one-sided). You should also find sources that you will actually use for your paper (not just the first results that come up in the search engine). It is wise for students to develop a working relationship with a librarian! Great place to start your research? SCC homepage > Library (top center of page) > Select “All Databases” in blue Search area > Scroll to “Literary” box > Select any of these databases (Artemis, Blooms, or Literature Resource Center). ● Things to search in these databases: ○ Information about your literary theory (Marxism, Feminism, or Ecocriticism) ○ Information about the novel Tropic of Orange ○ Information about Karen Tei Yamashita ○ Information about your topic Keep in mind, these are NOT the only databases you can do your research in – just a place to get you started and hopefully find your first source! Gonzalez 2 For this assignment, you will locate at least 2 sources (no more than 4 sources). These sources will be extremely crucial for the eventual success of your paper. You should be able to speak to why that source is pertinent to your topic. Each entry on the annotated bibliography will include the following: 1. MLA formatted citation 2. At least a 4 sentence summary of the main ideas in the source 3. At least 1 sentence assessing the source’s credibility This means at least 5 sentences on the annotated bibliography per entry. Single space everything and leave a space in between each entry (exception to our typical MLA format rules). Also, you may use first person point-of-view if you want in the annotation.
