Wonder Company SimulationSimulationThe Module 2 SLP requires that you continue with the scenario and simulation you began in the Module 1 SLP.SCENARIO CONTINUATIONSLP2 – It is January 15, 2017. You have finished analyzing the performance of the Wonder Company, and you have submitted the report requested by your CEO, Sally Smothers. You are ready to move forward to 2017, but then…..….as you turn on the TV, you notice something very strange. You recognize that the date is January 1, 2013, and that you get to make the decisions for the Wonder Company for the 4-year period beginning with 2013. Your challenge is to do better than Joe Thomas. At the beginning of each year (2013-2016), you will determine your pricing, your R

Please note it’s a 2 separate discussion for each week…one paragraph for each week is fine with reference. In Module 2, we focus on SWOT. In order to complete a SWOT, we are required to identify and analyze the key opportunities and threats in the external environment. Then, we need to identify and analyze the company’s key strengths and weaknesses (internal analysis).WEEK 1:During Week 1, you are asked to address the following:a) Evaluate the operating industry of General Mills using a minimum of two forces included within Porter’s Five Forces model.b) Using PEST, assess General Mills’ remote environment using a minimum of two PEST forces.c) Conclude your assessment about the overall environment. Is it more or less favorable for General Mills? Give your ranking from 1-10 (in which 1 = vast gloom and doom for this company; 10 = huge bonus this year!). Where do you think General Mills fits on this 1-10 scale?WEEK 2:a) Assess what you believe to be the most important aspects of the internal environment at General Mills. Do not try to analyze every aspect of the internal organization — rather, identify a minimum of two internal strengths and/or weaknesses. Do your best not to repeat the observations made by your peers, although you are encouraged to build on each other’s observations (or to disagree). b) Complete your SWOT by integrating the external environmental analysis you completed in Week 1 with your Week 2 internal analysis. Use your SWOT to conclude whether the organization’s overall outlook is more – or less – favorable. It is very important for a company to assess its strengths so that it can use them to neutralize (or better yet, to eliminate) environmental threats and take advantage of opportunities. The organization must recognize (and it must work to shore up) its weaknesses so that opportunities are not missed, and such that threats are much less likely to put the company at risk. Be sure to respond to the conclusions of your classmates.

From reading the article for this week I would say over-emergence is when someone works their way to being a leader, but when put in the leadership position seems to fall short in effectiveness. I worked at a gymnastics facility for many years and I saw first hand where this happened. A mother of an athlete at the gym was close friends with the owner of the gym. The mother would constantly help with events at the gym and made sure to be there to help when the owner needed it. Due to her support of the owner, when it was time for the owner to move away, she chose the mother that was always there to take over the gym. While it seemed like a good idea for the owner to sell the gym to the mother it quickly became a negative decision. The mother that took over the gym had little to no business experience and was constantly making book keeping errors and letting employees get away with things. This to me is an example of over-emergence. While the mother seemed loyal and fit to handle the business with care, she was lacking in other areas required to run the business. I would say that this is specific to gender because the mother was genuine and caring (which are seen as female qualities) but lacked the ability to discipline employees. (Disciplining is typically seen as a male quality.)The marble ceiling is related to the glass ceiling in the sense that it is an unseen barrier. The marble ceiling is different, however in the sense that it is not a stopping barrier between the woman and the work field. The marble ceiling is a barrier that does not stop, but deters. A woman has many things in the way of getting to where she wants to be in the workplace, but the marble ceiling is used to show that even though they have to get to the position they want differently and with more difficulties, they can still get there and are not completely stopped from reaching the position they want. Gabrielle The article that we read this week showed how individuals make it to the top of a corporation. This article explains the differences between leader emergence and leader effectiveness. When it comes to being a leader, some companies don’t quite understand the difference between the two. From my understanding, emergent leaders are employees who begin taking on tasks voluntarily, helping others complete their duties better, and encouraging agreement between coworkers. This type of leader is someone that proves they are worthy of leadership before they are given the official title. Emergent leaders are fearless, independent, and possess exceptional people skills for which help them climb the corporate latter. The article also mentions the Gender Role Theory, which is where they discovered that there was prejudice against women when it comes to leadership emergence. This I find very interesting because even today many people assume that there is no gender role theory and women have it as easy as men do. I have not worked in many jobs where I have felt like I couldn’t move up within the company. Currently, I work for a dealership remotely, and I find it hard to even switch from part-time to full time after my company changed both of my managers without also telling the remote staff. I don’t know how I would personally handle being held back because I am a woman. The second article we read this week was about the concept of the marble ceiling. I found that the ideas of the marble ceiling and the glass ceiling relate in a way to each other but are still very different. As we learned last week, the glass ceiling is the concept that women are being kept from reaching the top of corporations. This week we learned that the marble ceiling is the challenges women face to gain both executive and legislative, elected offices.
