– PLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST!!!!! In 7 sentences In “The Lottery”DescriptionSolution downloadThe QuestionPLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST!!!!! In 7 sentences ??In “The Lottery” the villagers don’t want to stop doing the lottery because it represents tradition for them and they also won’t stop even though other villages have. This story shows irony, we the readers think there is going to be a happy ending because everybody naturally associates the lottery as being something good. In the end of this story Mrs. Hutchinson who is the “winner” of the lottery gets stoned to death by the villagers. Before the lottery starts the villagers keep their distance from the stool that has the black box on it. They also hesitate when Mr. Summers asks for help. These reactions are not what you would expect from people who are looking forward to the lottery. The lottery box is painted black, probably stained with blood, and worn out. The villagers are hesitant in replacing the box because it represents tradition. “Used to be a saying about ‘Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon. First thing you know, we’d all be eating stewed chickweed and acorns. There’s always been a lottery” (Jackson 376). The point of The Lottery is to use the person who “wins” to take the fall for the rest of the towns sins. When The Lottery first began and the villagers understood the tradition fully, the person who “won” would be proud for being the person who saves the village from their sins. The villagers who forgot the significance of the tradition, turned The Lottery into something selfish because they want a scapegoat. The villagers don’t want to deal with their sins themselves.
