Each answer would be 1300 words.  the following questions have been asked: (1) Who should rule and why, according to Aristotle? What is your assessment of his view in this regard? (2) On Aristotle’s view, what is the relationship between the good person and the good citizen? Are the virtues of one the same as the virtues of the other? How does Plato understand that relationship? Compare and contrast the Aristotelian and Platonic views on this issue. (3) Describe the views of either Aristotle or Plato with respect to the following question: What is the best form of government? Why? What is your assessment of that view? (4) Aristotle says that the essence of citizenship is ruling and being ruled in turn. Does this make him a democrat? (5) Select one ancient and one modern author from the following list and write one essay on each. For each essay, identify and elucidate one central political idea from each author – citing primary texts where appropriate. Each essay should be approximately 1,250 words long. Explain Aristotle’s theory of citizenship and contrast it with that of one modern thinker. How does Aristotle’s theory hold up against the modern theory? Is it defensible? In what ways does Aristotle value citizenship? Does he value it too much? Or too little? What can we learn from his idea of the citizen?
