Positive and harmful behaviors at a local festival
Attend a social function/event of your choice. You have a wide range of options for the kinds of places and things you could attend: a family get-together, a sporting event, a public place where people come together to socialize, etc. There should ideally be at least ten people at the event you observe, though a smaller event is fine if you’re unable to attend a larger one by the due date. When you attend this event, try to take notes on the positive and harmful health behaviors you see people engaging in. A positive health behavior is one that will make a direct, positive contribution to the health of the person engaging in it, and a harmful health behavior is one that will make a direct, negative contribution to the health of the person who engages in it. For this project, look for and report on at least three harmful behaviors and at least one positive health behavior. I don’t want you to interview people on why they’re engaging in these behaviors; you should only observe and report on the behaviors you witness. o Important: Do not identify who any of the people are or provide details about them which could allow them to be identified. Your descriptions of them should let them remain completely anonymous. Finally, for at least two of the harmful health behaviors you witness, reflect on who the manufacturers of illness are who promote and/or benefit from those behaviors. Be sure to refer to the description of what “manufacturers of illness” are, which is provided in Chapter 2. Also, be sure to address why each of the groups you cite should be considered “manufacturers of illness” for the harmful behaviors you see.
