This chapter introduces both of these concepts. This discussion focuses on the correlation analysis concepts. After review of Chapter 12, consider and discuss the following concepts:1. Direct and Inverse Relationships and examples.2. Association and Causation in terms of relationships. In particular, does correlation imply causation?3. Spurious correlation and examples.4. Measuring correlation – correlation coefficient r and its interpretation.Due by Monday By Jenika The connection of two variables specifies when one variable changes in value, the other changes in the opposite direction (Black, 2017). The relationship between the two variables is important to note because the value of one variable can predict the value of the other (Black, 2017). Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, the term r which was created by the English statistician Karl Pearson, is a measure of the linear correlation of two variables (Black, 2017). The number symbolizes the strength of the relationship of two variables ranging -1 to 0 to 1 (Black, 2017). A perfect positive relationship between two numbers is represented by an r value of 1, whereas an f value of -1 is indicative of a perfect negative correlation which shows an inverse relationship (Black, 2017).An inverse relationship is when one value increases, the other value decreases (Black, 2017). There is no relationship between two variables when the r value is 0 (Black, 2017). A direct relationship is when one variable increases, the other variable increases as well and when one variable decreases, so does the other. For example, when a person’s heart rate increases, the more calories a person burns. In terms of relationships, correlation and causation differs in that correlation implies a connection whereas causation refers to cause and effect. For example, a person who works overtime will receive more money on their paycheck than a person who doesn’t work overtime-this is causation. On the other hand, a person that gets eight hours of sleep each night may have a higher GPA than someone who only gets 5 hours of sleep each night-this is an example of correlation. With the latter situation, it may not necessarily be true that the person with more sleep has a higher GPA, but for the person who works overtime, the chance of their paycheck being more than the person who doesn’t work overtime is more probable.Spurious causation falsely suggests cause and effect of two variables. For example, when initially looking at two variables, one would think they are causally related but after further examination, conclusions are drawn that it is only by coincidence or because of a mediating variable (Crossman, 2019).Black, K. (2017). Business Statistics: For Contemporary Decision Making, (9th Edition). Hoboken, NJ: Wiley. Crossman, A. (2019). Thoughtco. Retrieved by https://www.thoughtco.com/spuriousness-3026602By ToshaDirect Relationship is where two variables do the same thing. If one increases, the other increases. If one decreases, the other decreases. Inverse Relationship is where two variables do the opposite thing. If one increases the other decreases.Direct relationships are written as A=kB where k is a nonzero constant.Inverse relationships are written as A= where k is a nonzero constant.Direct Relationship Examples: Radius of a circle and its area are directly related. If the radius increases, the area will get bigger. If the radius decreases, the area will be smaller. Pay and the number of hours worked are a direct relationship. If the hours worked increase, pay will increase. If the hours worked decrease, pay will decrease.Inverse Relationship Examples: Speed and the time it takes to travel are inversely related. As you increase your speed, the travel time decreases. As you decrease your speed, the travel time increases. The Law of Supply and Demand is an inverse relationship. As the demand of a product increases, its supply will decrease. As the supply of a product increases, the amount of demand will decrease.

Include an introduction demonstrating an understanding of organizational commitment, leader-member exchange, and perception of support. Within the body of the summary, provide comparative research with other possible engagement surveys. Lastly, within the conclusion, explain why your survey will add operational value to the organization.CompetencyThis competency will allow you to recognize and summarize an example of an effective team and synthesize the elements of a successful leader.InstructionsYour boss has asked you to represent the organization by participating in an industry research panel on leadership. Prior to the Communist revolution in Cuba, your company owned beachfront property
Prior to the Communist revolution in Cuba, your company owned beachfront property on the Peninsula de Hicacos in Varadero, Cuba. On or about January 1, 1959, in conjunction with Fidel Castro’s Communist revolution, the Cuban government expropriated the property without paying your business. In 1997, Club Mediterranee, S.A., and Club Mediterranee Group (Club Med) entered into a joint venture with the Cuban government to develop the property. Club Med constructed and operated a five-star luxury hotel on the property that your company had owned. Your company sues Club Med in a U.S. District Court located in the state of Florida arguing that the original expropriation of its property by the Cuban government was illegal and that Club Med had trespassed on its property and had been unduly enriched by its joint venture with the Cuban government to operate a hotel on their expropriated property. Your company sought to recover the millions of dollars in profits earned by Club Med from its alleged wrongful occupation and use of its expropriated property. How should the U.S. District Court rule? Explain.

Please answer the questions (1 to 6) for Case Study 2-1 (about Groupon) For each question please write at least 5 sentences.Submit your work in a word document.■ CASE STUDY 2‐1 GrouponGroupon, Inc. raised $700 million at its IPO in the fall of 2011, instantly providing a valuation of almost $13 billion for a company that was only three years old at the time. Some question the value, claiming Groupon has no sustainable compet- itive advantage. Others see Groupon as an innovative company with high potential.Groupon sells Internet coupons for events, services, and other popular items that customers might want to buy. Customers sign up for daily e‐mails targeted to their local market. The daily deal, offered for one‐day only and only if a predetermined minimum number of customers buy it, gives customers 50% off the “retail” price. For example, a $100 three‐month health club membership would sell for $50 on Groupon. The customer pays $50 to Groupon and prints a certificate to redeem at the health club. Groupon keeps 50% of the revenue, or $25 in this case, and gives the rest to the health club. Effectively, retailers are offering 75% off with the customer saving 50% and Groupon taking the rest.Groupon pays the retailer when the coupon is redeemed, making money both on the float between the time revenue is collected and the time the retailer is paid and on the certificates that are never redeemed at all, which the industry calls break- age. Retailers make money in the long run by introducing customers to their products, selling them additional products and services when they come in to redeem their coupons, and turning them into repeat customers. And retailers benefit from the buzz created when their business is on Groupon. In August 2010, Groupon launched its first national deal, a coupon worth $50 of Gap apparel and accessories for $25. It sold over 440,000 coupons, netting Groupon and the Gap close to $11 million. But not all vendors are the size of the Gap, and smaller vendors have been overwhelmed with too many coupons. One local business owner said the company lost $8,000 on its Groupon promotion when too many coupons were issued. In fact, a study of 150 retailers showed that only 66% found their deals profitable.Around the time of the IPO, analysts and observers alike claimed that Groupon’s business model was not sustainable. In addition to the large number of retailers who found their deals unprofitable, observers noted that Groupon does not produce anything of value, and it isn’t adding value to the retailers. Further, there are no barriers to entry to stop competitors. In May 2011, more than 450 competitors offering discounts and deals included LivingSocial, another daily deal site; restaurant.com, a site for restaurant gift certificates at a deep discount; and overstock.com and woot.com, sites offering discounted merchan- dise, not to mention deep‐pocketed competitors like Amazon.com.But Groupon added to its business strategy with mobile capability and new services. In February 2012, it purchased Kima Labs, a mobile payment specialist, and Hyperpublic, a company that builds databases of local information. In May 2011, in a few cities, the company launched Groupon Now, a time‐based local application that gives customers instant deals at merchants nearby using location‐based software. CEO Andrew Mason told Wall Street analysts in February 2012 that he saw significant growth potential, including working on new features that will help customers personalize offers and avoid deals they don’t want.Discussion Questions
