                                                    Individual Research Project

Year 1, SEM -2, 2020

General Instructions & Format:

1)      This is an individual assignment that you should do on your own.

2)      Questions are assigned to students according to alphabetical order of their names.

3)      Separate questions are given to each student in order to avoid plagiarism.

4)      The word limit for this assignment is 3,000 words (+/- 10%); including graphs and tables.

5)      The assignment must be submitted on time (a soft copy to be uploaded on Turnitin via moodle page of the module and one hard copy to be submitted to your lecturer) to be considered for evaluation.

6)      Assignments submitted after the deadline will be penalised by deducting 5% of the overall mark for each day up-to 6 days; assignments will not be graded or accepted after 6 days.

7)      If you face any problem, please make sure to contact your lecturer before the due date.

8)      You are expected to support your work with sources from the literature and use Harvard referencing style as appropriate, in text and in the list of references at the end of your assignment.

9)      Format:

a.       Font: Times New Roman

b.      Use double spacing and sufficient margins (3-4 cm)

c.       Headings & subheadings font size: 14 points; the rest of the text: 12 points

d.      All pages should be numbered; include a table of content.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Grading:

Its an individual project. The written report will be marked out of 40 marks based on the attached grading scheme.

Academic Integrity:

•        Fill in the BIBF Assignment Coversheet, scan it or capture it as a picture (to ensure that it does not affect the similarity % counted by Turnitin) and paste it in the first page of your assignment.

•        You are required to sign the coversheet.

•        By signing the coversheet and uploading your work on Turnitin, you confirm that:

–          The work is your own, and that you have not copied another’s work or allowed anyone to copy your work, and that you have referenced the work of others in an appropriate way.

–          You have read and understood the BIBF guidelines on Plagiarism and abided with the necessary practice

Note:

Task 1: (30 Marks)

Show all necessary workings (use Excel) and convert it to word. Prepare a report in MS Word.           

 

Task 2: (10 Marks)

No actual calculations are required. Prepare summary in MS Word.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Structure of the Report: Task 1

The structure of the report should follow the below pattern. The entire report should be divided into meaningful paragraphs based on this structure.

  • Cover sheet which includes your name and topic
  • Title page
  • Table of content
  • Introduction: Describe the idea of your project. Briefly discuss the method of data collection.
  • Methodology
  1. Definitions
  2. Data collection/ Sampling procedure.

Choose an appropriate probability sampling scheme. Provide a brief justification for your selection.

Describe the sampling frame and the method of contact you will use. Briefly explain the reasons for your choices.

State the main research question of the survey. Identify the variables associated with this question.

 

  • A table summarizing the sample data
  1. Calculation / questionnaire.
  • Conclusion: A paragraph detailing the conclusion
  • Summary:
  1. i) Briefly summarize what you did for this project and what you found.
  2. ii) Discuss any shortcoming of the methods you used to gather data. Include response / non response bias in your report and ways to overcome them. Provide an example in which response bias occurred. State an action that you would take to address this issue.

iii) Did you discover anything that surprised you when you analyzed the data? Do you think the results would have been different if you had bigger sample sizes? If you had to do the project again, how would you do it differently?
