Short Film Analysis

Write an outline/analysis of The Saviour. At the top of the homework identify the protagonist, antagonist, genre (within the short form is it a comedy (what kind?), drama (what kind?), etc.). Next outline and analyze each story element. Use all the terms we have learned so far this semester. Short films usually have only one or two subplots (if they have time for subplots at all). Identify (label) and track subplots in your analysis as you see them play out. Break your analysis into the three-act structure. And, as always, indicate your catalyst (also called inciting incident) in bold, the major turning points that signal the act breaks and the act breaks also in bold as they appear in the outline/analysis. Use the terminology we have worked with and indicate what kind of turning point each is – reversal, complication, revelation etc. Include a paragraph discussing the overall story world in which the film takes place. What are the values of this story world? What kind of things do you think happen in this story world – what are the expectations you have of this story world? Remember genre and world do a lot of narrative work in a film (and screenplay).
