The proposal was biased against students who sought degrees in areas of concentration where clearly the return of investment for those students majoring in low density fields would not be as valued in the job market or the probability of a comparable salary to match their skill sets.

Factoring in the space centers and programs located in that region, I would image the aeronautical market more than likely demanding a high output of scholarly scientists, engineers and mathematicians alike. No, I do not necessarily agree with the committees rationale for encouraging students to seek STEM degrees, but I understand their recruitment efforts to assist and guide students with declaring a major in a program that is in high demand.

This proposal alludes that STEM degrees are more important. The state legislature has gone back and forth with what the state is willing to pay for degree seeking students. According to Travis, “the state once paid for 75 percent of student’s tuition in Florida’s public colleges and universities. But dropped to less than 50 percent in recent years, as a poor economy resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in budget cuts” (Travis, 2012).

No, I do not agree with their assumption. I believe that there should be a set standard on the tuition rates for all degree programs as this would appear favorably to potential students.
