HEALT 2114 2/2019: Task 2a Description
For Task 2 you are required to explore a current health issue for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. This task is divided into two separate assignments: Task 2a and Task 2b. You will use the same topic for both parts of this task. The topic that you choose must be the same as the group that you have self-selected into for Task 2b.
There are four topics to choose from: o Diabetes
o Hearing, sight and other senses o Intergenerational trauma o Oral health

Task 2a – Individual Essay (1500 words +- 10%)
This task is an individual assignment and should be written separately from your group assignment
For your chosen topic:
• Describe the health issue
• Use current statistics (less than 5 years old) to illustrate the burden of this health issue for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians compared with non-Aboriginal and Torres and Strait Islander Australians
• Describe how the history of colonisation has impacted on the development of this health issue for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians
• Identify and discuss the impact of two social determinants of health on the development and progression of this health issue
• Discuss the cultural implications and obstacles to addressing this health issue for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians

– The ‘General Guide to Writing and Study Skills’, available on the Library webpage (under Student Resources) may be a useful resource when writing your essay.
– Remember to include an introduction and conclusion for your essay
– You must submit your essay through Turnitin
– A coversheet is not required for this assessment task
– Referencing should be in APA 6th edition format. Consult the General Guide to Referencing, found on the University Library website for details
– Please use a minimum of 10 academic references. These should be no more than 10 years old from reliable academic sources.
– You may use appropriate websites (e.g., Edith Cowan University’s HealthInfoNet, Australian Government websites).
