This is an opportunity for you to express how this course has given you a deeper understanding of country

music through the lens of different contributors to the genre. Please use course content from each unit to support your analysis and opinions. Pick one of the people below and complete a project from that perspective.

Singer songwriter – Write and record a piece of country music in the style of your choosing. In addition to submitting your song, please submit a 1-page description of your project and how it relates to one of the units in the course.

Music critic – Pretend that you are a music critic for a newspaper. Pick three contrasting country music songs and write a 1-2 page “review” of each song which highlights the culture, style, and region of the song. Then, write a 1 page summary (out of character) that compares these reviews and highlights differences based on artist, time period, region, instruments, etc…

Music producer – Pretend that you are the producer making all the creative decisions for a brand new country music star. Make up your star, pick the region and time period, and design a marketing package for that person. This should include, and album cover, a concert flyer, and an “info sheet” meant to persuade a radio station to play this music. Then, write a 2 page summary of why you made those creative decision, referencing reading and course materials.

Country Music DJ – You are a DJ tasked with entertaining a room full of country music fans. Pick a time period, region, venue, etc… and make a playlist for the occasion (20 songs minimum.) Then, in a 3-4 page essay, describe your venue/time period/region, explain a bit about each song, why you chose it, and why it is appropriate for the scenario you chose.
