wrote a CNF assignment. I have to make sure it tells a story in
first person, using the elements of fiction: description, setting, characterization, dialogue, plot, and theme. Can someone review my story and let me know if I have completed this.

Mistaken Gender

The room was dark and cold. My wife sat on the table while I stood and waited for the ultrasound technician to come into the room. We have driven nearly two hours away to Nashville in order to receive a detailed ultrasound of our child. Due to my family history of cleft lip we had to make sure our son did not carry this gene. A boy is what we have been told multiple times we are having. I couldn’t be more ecstatic; my first child is to be a boy. There are so many different things I can’t wait to teach him. I can picture it like a dream, Bentley, the name we have chosen, is nearly four with his mother’s tan complexion and a head full of red curly hair. I stare into his green eyes while we both toss the ball back and forth playing catch, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. The creek of the door opening snaps my attention back to reality. We are greeted, “Hello I will be the technician conducing the ultrasound today”. Together my wife and I say hello to the lady.
I look over at my wife, she is beaming of light. As she sits there, I admire her every being. Her glowing tan complexion with long dark brown hair passing down her shoulders. The baby bump looks like she is hiding a basketball under her flower blue dress. Her head turns my direction meeting my stare with her big golden-brown eyes. A huge smile strikes her face. She has the smile of an angel. You can definitely tell she is glowing in her first pregnancy. “Now lay back on the table while I place the warm gel on your belly,” Our attention is immediately drawn back to the technician. My wife follows the instructions and before we know it there, he was on the 32″ television on the left wall. Such a worm who refuses to sit still for his photograph. “At first, I am going to take a few photos for the doctor and then I will let you know what we are looking at,” the technician explains. As I watch the screen I have absolutely no idea what I am looking at, everything just looks alien like. After she has taken the photo’s she then shows us a full body picture of our baby.
I sit and hold my wife’s hand during this process. Its so exciting, I can’t wait to meet this little guy. “This is the baby’s head, arm, hand, and legs,” the technician explains each part one step at a time. This is definitely helpful because it is hard to decipher when you don’t know what you’re looking at. The technician asks, “Do you know what your having?” At the same time both my wife and I utter, “Yes a boy!” She looks at us with such certainty, looking at myself first and then back at my wife. “No, no sweetie. You guys are having a girl.”
Our head’s snap in each other’s direction so fast, I swear I could have given myself whiplash. My face drops into a blank expression, I have never been so confused in my life. All I can think about in this moment is how I just finished painting the entire bedroom two different colors of blue. We had the entire nursery ready for a baby boy. My wife is twenty-five weeks how had this not been caught during the multiple ultrasounds she previously received? My attention draws back to my wife, she is laughing, “I told you, I told you” she exclaimed. “I just knew it was a girl this entire time!” While she sits on the table laughing and already shopping inside her head I sit here in complete confusion. So many questions run though my mind, how could this have happened? What do I do with a girl? I know nothing about girls. That one vision I once had of father and son now disappeared. I now vision, my daughter at four years old, a mixed complexion of myself and my wife. Her curly light brown hair and big green eyes. She sits on the floor playing with a baby doll, looks right at me and jumps up to be in my arms. I flash back to reality, “breathe” I tell myself. There’s not much I can do now other than repaint that blue room to pink and strategize what I am going to do with a girl. And just like that I have been outnumbered. I look up at my wife, who at this moment has one of the biggest smiles I have ever seen on her face before. My shoulders drop, a smirk comes across my face. I know that no matter what there is nothing more in this world that I want other then a healthy child and healthy wife. Here’s to the adventure that is upon us, our family of three.
