Research Essay: Social Issues
Guidelines
Paper Formatting
- 5” x 11”
- 1” margins
- Double-spaced
- 12-point font size
- Times New Roman or Arial font
- About 1000 words (3-4 pages)
- Proper APA formatting (refer to Pocket Keys handbook or Purdue OWL website if needed)
Source Material
You must use at least 3 sources, but you may use up to 5 sources. The sources must be appropriate academic sources (as per our library information session). I recommend referring to the library database worksheet I gave you before. All sources need to be properly documented in APA format with in-text citations and a reference list at the end of the essay.
Annotated Bibliography
For each of your sources, you will be required to do an annotated bibliography. You will turn these in as homework assignments in class on the day they are due. Each annotated bibliography should be approximately 150 words and no more than 175 words.
Your annotated bibliography will include 1.) the reference citation of your source [not included in the word count], 2.) a summary of the source and 3.) an evaluation of your source. For the evaluation, you should evaluate the authority or background of the author, comment on the intended audience of the article, compare or contrast this work with another of your sources, and/or explain how this work illuminates your topic.
