With the amazing advances in health care in recent decades, one question that continues to stir debate within the political arena and from a personal perspective is: “How to pay for health care” Health care managers must be good stewards of their resources to allow the funds available to do the greatest good for the largest number of people. Health care finance information is critical to assessing the financial condition of an organization, as well as accessing whether the resources being spent are achieving the goals of the organization.

To prepare for this Discussion, select a recent (within 5 years) relevant article from the Walden University library and current information from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Knowledge Center, that addresses the importance of health care finance information in decision making within the health care setting.

Providing care for patients of different cultures.

1)  You will be providing care for patients of different cultures. Choose a diet that would be cultural specific for a patient with new onset of hypertension. Identify the culture of the patient and discuss how you would explain this diet to your patient. For example, how would you adapt the D-A-S-H (dietary approaches to stop hypertension) diet for a Hispanic patient?

2)   Briefly discuss the symptoms of right- and left-sided HF. What common primary care diagnoses result in the development of HF symptoms? Discuss the treatment of one of these common causes. What are some serious signs and symptoms of acute HF and the findings you may encounter during auscultation? When would you refer to cardiology for evaluation and treatment? Also discuss the criteria used to make a diagnosis of HF and interpretation of any diagnostic results that would be obtained. Consider your practicum experiences and discuss them as they relate to the topic.

3) Discuss the definitions of ASD(Atrial septal defects) and VSD (Ventricular septal defects). What are the symptoms and the assessment findings you may encounter among children? What are the symptoms and physical examing findings from ascultation for each in adults? Briefly discuss treatment options for children and adults with ASD and VSD.

Opening an affordable child care center

  • I have chosen to do my project on opening an affordable child care center for children with special needs in the Plainfield or Camby IN area. The center would have RN and LPN’S on staff always. Also, it would provide a feeding clinic (no matter how the child is to be feed), Early Intervention, speech, and therapy. Also, would have staff available for the parents to get answers to many medical problems for their child or refer them to where they would need to go to assist them with these problems.
  1. Think of a project you can create, implement and evaluate. The project should achieve these goals:
  • a. Helps to improve the health and/or well-being of community members
  • b. Follows the four phases of the project life cycle (Pg. 6)
  • c. A topic in which you are already familiar

    • a. Create a short, declarative sentence that summarizes the point of the project and represents a broad view of the project as though the project has been completely implemented. Think: What do I want the project to look like when it is fully implemented?
    • b. Examples of visions statements:

      • 2. Special Olympics: To transform communities by inspiring people throughout the world to open their minds, accept and include people with intellectual disabilities and thereby anyone who is perceived as different.
  • 3. Write a Mission Statement:
    • a. create one, declarative sentence that describes a general vision of how you will achieve your vision. Think: How will I get from where I am now to the vision for my project?
    • b.  Examples of some vision statements are:
      • Make-A-Wish To grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
      •  Special Olympics  The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Health services continue to affect the gross domestic product, and this dramatic transformation has great demands on each dollar spent to deliver patient-centered products. Health care marketing must be repeatedly applied and practiced strategically to include environmental dimensions, such as technology, socioeconomic, competition, and regulatory.

That being said, in today’s global economy, investors and potential entrepreneurs must tap into the so-called “unexplored” market. In this aspect, health care establishments must utilize marketing, advertising, as well as sales strategies when pursuing new customers (e.g., suppose a health care investor wanted to build a small hospital in a rural community); this would entail exploration and logistical experimentation to determine who will patronize the facility. In an impoverished neighborhood, the feasibility of having lucrative profits may see diminishing returns, and so the venture may be not worth the effort. Also, suppose that the potential investor wants to sell mosquito deterrents (e.g., bedside netting in malaria-infested regions of Asia or Africa); then it would be wise to investigate the number of beds that are actually in the village, and who would be willing to purchase them. These activities take into account the investor portfolio, as well as the feasibility of marketing and selling the product. Such exploration also examines competitors, cultural differences, and—most important—identification of the customer.

Identify a local health care establishment (e.g., hospital, rehabilitation center, emergency medical center) and determine its product development practices. Utilize concepts from previous weeks to substantiate information, as needed. You may develop the discussion based on the ideas presented here, but feel free to inject any salient marketing strategy that you believe might support your presentation.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. Justify the purpose of the selected health care establishments’ product(s) / service (s) and their associated life cycle(s).
  2. Suggest one (1) strategy to improve the marketing mix of the selected health care establishment. Support your strategy by highlighting one (1) benefit of (1) portfolio analysis and providing two (2) examples that display differential advantages.
  3. Assess the importance of technology in providing patients with clear and accessible information about health care organizations and the product(s) / service(s) that they provide.
  4. Outline a survey to capture patients’ expectations regarding the delivery and / or accessibility of product(s) / service(s) identified.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality academic resources. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
