Processes of Thinking

Psychologists identify two systems for thinking. System 1 is intuitive thinking, and System 2 is reflective thinking. Some decisions are the result of intuitive thinking, and other decisions are the result of reflective thinking. Your textbook describes each system and provides examples. Throughout this course, you reviewed many decisions you made recently or in the past. In this Discussion as you complete this course, you revisit one of the decisions considered at the beginning of this course in light of the new distinctions: intuitive and reflective processes of thinking.

To prepare for this Discussion:

-Review Chapter 10 in your course text, Rational Choice in an Uncertain World. Reflect on the influence of intuitive thinking and reflective thinking on decision making.
-Review the decision that worked out well from your Week 1 Discussion.
-Think about whether you used an intuitive or reflective thinking process when you made the decision.
-Consider a decision you made using the alternative process.
-Reflect on the similarities and differences between using the intuitive and reflective thinking processes for your two different decisions.
-Think about why you used different processes for the two different decisions. With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief description of the decision that worked out well in your Week 1 Discussion. Explain whether you used an intuitive or reflective thinking process and why. Then describe the decision you made using the alternative process and explain why you used this process for this decision. Be specific.
