SUMMARY

Hiring managers have certain benchmarks that they use when looking for a potential employee and it is ones[A1]  goal in writing this paper to help one become more competitive in one’s job search and to become a leader in today’s job market by focusing on two things: the resume and the cover letter. These two imperative career tools are often overlooked by job seekers who, without them, lose the opportunity of employment. A credible resume and a cover letter can get ones feet in the door for an interview, so it only makes sense to prepare them correctly and with a purpose.

INTRODUCTION

The resume and the cover letter are what get one in the door for an employment interview. Their purpose is for one to introduce oneself to an employer in brief[A2] . They should include one’s education and relevant experiences that relate to the job one is applying for. These experiences may be drawn from ones previous employment, volunteering, or even or hobbies. A cover letter should focus on key skills and experiences and also show how they tie in with the position one wants to obtain.

Ones resume says a lot about oneself, however, not every situation is the same for everyone and this is where a cover letter comes into play. While ones resume gives basic facts about one’s history and references, a cover letter allows one to say what one wants to say to one’s potential employer. It is a chance to let one’s persona and personality behind the resume, shine through[A3] .

DISCUSSION

  • Type of Development that best fits the topic of the report
    • Concept

In composing a resume and cover letter, there are many words which may be considered to have pointless meanings unless they are combined with specific actions. For example: aggressive, creative, determined, independent, competent, successful, and well-organized. As a substitute of using these words to describe oneself, use them to describe a project one designed, an event one planned a business strategy one implemented, or team one managed. By utilizing this principle, one presents ones prospective employer a view of one’s true contributions and abilities based on past endeavors.

  • Points to be developed
    • A resume is one of the most important tools of job seeking.
  • resume should be as short as possible
  • tailor ones resume to a particular field or industry
  • use action words
  • give the results of work produced, for example: numbers, timed saved, effects, durability and expansion
  • The cover letter should stand on its own, independent of the resume
  • Each letter should be carefully adapted for each employer
  • The cover letter should contain examples of results one has produced or problems one have solved
  • do research that shows one has taken the time to learn about the company
  • not be more than one page long
  • Use action words:

Examples: planned, selected, supervised, designed, budgeted, edited, established, directed
