Theme 1 Learning Activity: <br/>Assume that you are the president
of a multi-national corporation operating outside of the United States and that a conflict has arisen as it pertains to the treatment of employees in the host country. For purposes of responding to this Learning Activity, the home country is where the company has its main headquarters; the host country is any other country where the company conducts business. . Further, assume for this activity that when the norms of the home country and the norms of the host country are in conflict, a multi-national corporation has the following four (4) options:
-follow the norms of its home country because that is the patriotic thing to do
-follow the norms of the host country to show proper respect for the host culture of the host country
-follow whichever norms are the most profitable
-follow whichever norms are the most ethicalWhich of the 4 options listed above, would you be more prone to follow, and why?
Theme 2 Learning Activity:
In the article, “Developing Leaders for a Sustainable Global Society”, Nancy McGaw, deputy director at the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society Program, shares the results of the institute’s research into leadership development with representatives from firms around the world. She posits that If we are now expecting businesses to operate with a longer-term view that takes social and environmental impacts into account, we need a new model of leadership to achieve that result. She goes on to list the attributes of the future leaders within the context of the model. What do you see as the major difference between the new model and the way we develop leaders today? Defend your position.
